What is Stutter? What causes it?

Stutter is a form of vocal compensation.  No one is sure what causes it.  For some a traumatic event such as a death or parents divorcing. etc.  For some perhaps an illness for others something else.  What brings it on is less important than putting you back in control of your vocal mechanics.  What is evident is that something is forgotten.  What is required is that the stutterer, stammerer or Spasmodic learns to gain back control of their voice once again.

Many people ask me what I think is going on and I would say that stuttering is a consonant fixated compensation in an attempt to master public speaking with an emotional component.  It can be resolved if the student truly desires the change and is willing to work very hard to change a very bad vocal habit.  Stuttering can without a doubt be controlled.  It requires a massive commitment and willingness to change on the part of the stutter.  Stuttering is the result of bad vocal techniques embodied.  We can change that… : )
